84 Pogrom Victim Resolute In Her Testimony

Panthic Weekly News Bureau, 20 September 2006

New Delhi, India (KP) - Harinder Kaur, a victim of the 1984 pogroms, has placed a complaint in the form of an affidavit against five individuals which she witnessed personally who were responsible for leading mobs in the killing of her husband Niranjan Singh, Head Constable of Delhi Police, son-in-law Mahender Singh, and 17-year-old son Gurpal Singh. She identified them in court.

Upon hearing that her complaint was being labeled as untrue, Harinder Kaur angrily declared that she was in fact an eyewitness to the events that took the lives of her family members. In addition to this, Additional Sessions Judge Rajinder Kumar of the Fast Track Court in New Delhi confirmed that although Kaur is illiterate, her testimony and complaint were factual.

The FIR was originally registered in 1996 when Harinder Kaur had issued the complaint with the Jain and Banerjee committee which deals with matters pertaining to the anti-Sikh pogroms.

It should be noted that although many such culprits individuals have been identified by the eyewitnesses who lodged such complaints, no single person has been held accountable for the crimes committed during the government-assisted 1984 pogroms that occurred after the assassination of Indira Gandhi.
